Buy used digital cameras and save big.

Used digital cameras are freely available from dealers, in magazines, over the Internet and via private sales. There is nothing wrong with buying a used digital camera as long as you know what to look for. This means knowing how to spot flaws, defects and damage that the camera may have sustained. Digital cameras are precision equipment and this makes them liable to a variety of faults.

There are a number of ways in which used digital cameras may have become damaged. These include water or moisture damage, damage caused by extreme temperatures and damage to any of the electronics of the camera. This can happen if a camera has been dropped into water, left in a very hot environment or gotten a hard knock when it's been dropped.

If you're not a camera expert it may be better to take one with you when buying used digital cameras. Remember the person who is selling the camera really does want the money for it and may not be honest with you about any damage that the camera has sustained.

When you buy used digital cameras there is always a risk involved. At the very least you should know how to check the lens for focus quality and make sure that the battery pack has not been damaged in any way. Where possible buy your used camera from a reputable outlet that guarantees the quality of their photographic equipment.

Beware of used digital cameras listed on the backs of magazines or bought by mail-order. You won't be able to ensure that the camera is in good working order and most of these sales have a "no-refund" policy and for very good reason. Be very careful when choosing this route to buy a cheaper digital camera.

If you stick to a reputable second-hand dealer who tests and guarantees his cameras you shouldn't have any problems. This is probably the best way to buy used digital cameras. You can also get good deals at places like e-bay but do make sure that the owner is not pulling a fast one. If the person selling the camera is willing to vouch for its value and quality in writing this is a good sign.
