Digital camera sales, out with the old and in with the new.

A study by the research group InfoTrends predicts that digital camera sales should continue to grow over the next few years to reach around 82 million units in 2008. The study revealed that the most popular brands are expected to be Canon, Sony, Olympus, Fujifilm and Kodak. These top manufacturers are expected to show a combined market share of 75%.

InfoTrends says it is clear that digital camera sales are going to exceed those of film cameras worldwide. What explains this popularity? In modern times the digital camera is becoming an important method of communication. Digital cameras offer ease of use and immediate images that just weren't possible with the old film cameras.

It is also easier to use and operate a digital camera making professional quality photographs more accessible to the average consumer. The three countries that are set to lead digital camera sales in the next decade are North America, Japan and Europe. The Asia Pacific region, China, and the the rest of the world account for just 10% of worldwide digital camera unit sales.

According to projections, by 2008 these areas will make up 27% of the worldwide digital camera sales. This is as a result of the fact that the middle class in developing countries is on the move in terms of spending power. The market is fiercely competitive. Canon, Sony, Olympus, Fuji, and Kodak are front runners in the market. They are likely to remain in the top five.

Unless the economy gets into serious trouble worldwide, digital camera sales are probably going to rise in the coming decades. As more and more people have access to computer and digital technology the demand for top-notch cameras is going to increase. Photography has always been a popular hobby.

Now, because digital technology has made it even easier to take, transmit and share pictures it is the wave of the future. Digital camera sales have already exceeded those of old-fashioned film cameras and will probably continue to do so as they become even easier to use, nice to handle and better to look at.
